The Hawk Walks have been great and folks ask quite a few questions regarding the RTH’s. One common question is “When will they leave the nest?”. While no one can be absolutely sure when, what we know is that, it’s very close.
This post shows a comparison between the eyasses last year and this year on about the same dates (May 17-20).

May 20, 2011 – At around this time last year, the activity level around the nest was similar. Eyasses tested their flight gear and ate on their own. One difference was that last year, Mama still dropped by the nest to feed 1 eyas while leaving the other 3 (there were 4 last year) to feed themselves. Without Mama, this particular eyas probably not get a chance to eat and starve. This year, it’s more of a food drop and leaving the eyasses to tussle over the food.
May 18, 2012 – Size wise, they look almost identical, maybe the current eyasses’ tails being a tad longer.
Last year, the 1st eyas fledged on May 31st. The next 2 on June 1st and the last one on June 2nd, so it would be safe to approximate their fledge date on or around May 30, 2012, that’s 10 days from now! I’ll keep watching.
