Raleigh Raptors – A Sight for Sore Eyes

Jan 28

It’s been two weeks and I haven’t really seen Mama or Papa around downtown, at least not at times where I usually see them.  I have started to wonder if they’re still downtown.

However, today, after taking a break from a long meeting, I walked up to the window and looked out and voila!  There be hawks in downtown!

I used my trusty point & shoot and had to take the image thru glass, but it was better than nothing.

Two hawks sat on the antenna tower.  I can’t quite make out who these two were, but if I were to take a guess, the hawk on the right is Mama and the one on the left is our boy, Blynken, but it could very well be Papa.  Sorry, the image can’t get better than this.  After the meeting, I took to the streets and walked towards the antenna, but the hawks were gone.

Later in the afternoon, a squadron of Crows buzzed around the Capitol.  There must have been about 15 to 20 noisy Crows cawing incessantly.  I checked out what they were clamoring about.  Nothing too interesting, but across the street was a different bird 🙂

Ah….  It’s Mama.  Truly, a sight for sore eyes. Whew!  They’re still here.

Good to see they’re still around.  At this time last year was when they started building their nest.  This year, they started about 4 weeks earlier.

Well, this little Nuthatch thinks it’s time to build that nest too.  Early Spring?

And in Wake Forest:

And while waiting for a car wash,  I saw this Red-tail flying overhead.  jan28 (1 of 1)-3

First, there was one… then its partner joined in.  They were sooooo  high up.

They’re just fantastic to watch.
