Morning before PAX

Feb 12

Schools around the south eastern states are closed due to impending storm system PAX.  But birds don’t have weather.gov but I kinda sense they don’t need all that techno wizardry but can feel when bad weather is imminent.  I didn’t expect our Red-tail friends to be out and about, but they were.

As I took a cold morning walk around the Capitol, I didn’t see any Red-tails but a lot of Robins, Bluejays and Starlings.  I was about to head out when a hawk flew in and landed on the Capitol.

First on the scene was, Eden?  Kid was up before her Parents. 🙂

But, Papa wasn’t far behind.  Papa landed on the large oak tree beside the Confederate Monument, then took a dive coming close to ground level.

Papa didn’t catch anything and landed on a tree by the George W Statue.  He started to preen, while Bluejays took a few fly-by’s at him.

Like always, Papa ignored the Bluejays.

Preening…

But it was a quick preening session as Papa took off and landed on a tree nearby. He looked into the main tree trunk, presumably looking in at a squirrel’s nest.

Papa took a peek inside a nest.

Seeing nothing, Papa took off to hunt… before Pax comes to town.

Lots of new lumber on the nest.

Stay warm, stay safe.
