Hunting with impunity

December 2

The weather was the exact opposite of yesterday’s.  Dreary, cold and poor lighting, but that didn’t stop our visitor or intruder from hunting at the Capitol.

Our visitor was relaxed…

Dec2 (1 of 1)

But very persistent

Somehow, he wasn’t able to get whatever was in that hole.  He took off for another tree…

Hard to see him in this one.

or get a good focus in this camouflage…

then another and continued to scour all the squirrel’s nests.

Dec2 (8 of 14)

but still came up empty.

Dec2 (9 of 14)

Yet another tree…

Dec2 (10 of 14)

With nothing to show for 😦

Dec2 (11 of 14)

He flew back to the first tree in this photo sequence and found…

He looked and pounced (sorry, no photo, too fast!) but missed…

So… who is this fella?  At this rate, there won’t be any squirrels left at the Capitol.

I checked the RT from last year, Eden.  It didnt’ look like her.  Eden had much fewer brown spots on her chest feathers.  But, this is not to say that they don’t change as they age.  I guess we’ll never know until we see Mama or Papa either come and chase this guy off or have a reunion.

Stay tuned…

  1. Way cool! I did not know they “raided” squirrel’s nest! That squirrel in the tree has no awareness of what is sizing him up!

    Great shots!
